The history of toilet paper!
Man's greatest bathroom necessity!
Have you ever wanted to learn about the exciting history of mankind's most reliable stool-side partner?! Now's your chance as we dive into the history of toilet paper!
The reason I am writing this for is that I don't think people give toilet paper the credit it deserves, so I thought that writing about the history of toilet paper would get people to realize just how revolutionary it really was at its time.
People have found nifty ways to clean up after their bathroom scenarios ever since the dawn of time. One of the most common solutions was to grab whatever was near you or to wash yourself off with water. Toilet paper came to be under a decade ago, and by the time toilet paper was starting to be advertised, people were still using the catalogs for various stores they got for free for their daily number two cleanup. In 1890, two brothers named Clarence and E. Irvin Scott popularized the concept of toilet paper on a roll. They started selling toilet paper to hotels and drugstores to help their sales and build up a trust. Originally, toilet paper was marketed as a medical item, promoted to prevent hemorrhoids from forming. It was still an uphill battle for the brothers, however, as people were too embarrassed to go out and say that they were going to buy toilet paper, as it was still a new concept to go out and buy something for a task that's quite personal. The very brothers selling it were so ashamed that they hid under pseudonyms until 1902. Eventually, it wasn't just a thing that you could get optionally, but at that point it was required. The toilets that once were are at that point, being tied to entire plumbing systems. You couldn't flush normal paper without damaging the pipe system, but toilet paper was safer on the pipes as it degraded during the flush. During the opportune time, toilet paper ads started boasting that their products were approved and recommended by both doctors and plumbers.
